About Department

In an effort to keep up with rapidly globalizing world and take a lead in world politics, Korea demands individuals trained comprehensively in both Political Science and International Relations at an increasing rate. Seoul National University, thus, aims to foster such individuals by combining previously separated Political Science and International Relations majors together and offers a professional, progressive, and well-rounded education necessary to succeed in the rapidly changing world trends such as globalization and democratization.

The combined Political Science and International Relations Department has focused on the following guidelines to foster individuals who possess both the macro perspective to observe general trends and the micro knowledge to carry out meaningful studies on them.

Department of Political Science and International Relations aims to produce maximum synergy of a comprehensive education by joining efforts in training fundamentals in both fields.

In an effort to foster creative imagination, critical thinking, and a deeper knowledge in humanities and social sciences, the Department will strengthen the student?s reading and discussion skills on the classics and the fundamentals.

The Department aims to expand and deepen education that fosters leadership necessary for international and public development in this globalizing era.

As the divide between world politics and domestic politics crumbles, it is necessary to educate future leaders who can explore the dynamic interaction between the two fields comprehensively through a newly combined education and research field.

The Department aims to provide an in-depth curriculum in each field, political science and international politics, which emphasizes the strengths of each field.

The Department provides a comprehensive and collaborative curriculum that encompasses public policy studies of political science, international development, cooperation studies, energy and environment studies, and various regional studies of international politics.
